Green Tea | Japanese Onta Ware Teapot

US$289.00

Handmade in Onta Village, this teapot is not just a teapot. The vivid green glaze, refined and earthy, evokes a serene sense of balance. The uniquely-shaped lid and rounded silhouette add an understated charm to everyday tea rituals.

Onta is a small Japanese village located on the island of Kyushu where ten families of potters preserve over 300 years of traditional craftsmanship. The clay, sourced from nearby mountains, undergoes meticulous preparation using water-powered mills known as kara’usu, a process lasting up to two months. Finished pieces are fired in wood-burning kilns and glazed with natural materials including straw, iron, copper, and ash, maintaining the authentic, time-honored character of Onta ware. In Onta, artisans work together perpetuating ancient knowledge and creating ceramics for daily use.

Whether placed on a wooden table, a shelf or in use during a quiet moment, this teapot invites slow living and the appreciation of the present moment.
