This fabric called ‘kain ulos’ is a typical Batak-woven cloth from the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. With different shades of blue highlighted by white arrows pointing in different directions, this Ulos is typical of the sophisticated Batak culture. Ulos is a symbol of blessing, compassion and unity. This design is typically used in wedding ceremonies as a gift from the bride’s parents to the groom. 

Endowed with extraordinary craftsmanship skills, Batak people are renowned for the production of fine textiles in dark and dignified designs and colors. Batak women are highly skilled weavers.

Origin: Sumatra, Indonesia

Material: Cotton

Condition: Good. There are tiny holes throughout, a small stain and some color change resulting from a folding mark. 

Dimension: 204 H x 100 W cm

Care: Wash by hand carefully with a soft and natural soap. Do not soak in water for long periods of time.
