Bloom
This Indonesian fabric traditionally called ikat has been hand-woven over a period of several months. This particular piece is an ode to women and femininity represented by the delicate flowers around the central motif, called Mamuli.
For Sumbanese tribes, Mamuli symbolizes beauty and the act of giving birth alluding to the cycle of human life. The weavers have associated a verse with this ikat in their local dialect which is “Nama wiawarrung walla na – Nama habarungu wuana” which can be translated as ‘Who spreads flowers sows his seeds’.
